What time does the stock market open?

The U.S. stock market opens for normal trading hours at 9:30am eastern time. This includes the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NASDAQ.

What time does premarket trading start?

The premarket starting time varies based on the exchange and your stock brokerage platform.

For example, Fidelity, a popular brokerage, starts their premarket hours at 7:00am eastern time. Another notable mention is Webull, which has one of the earliest premarket starting times at 4:00am eastern time.

What time does the stock market close?

Normal trading hours for the NYSE and NASDAQ ends at 4:00pm eastern time.

Exceptions exist in the form of half days where normal trading hours ends at 1:00pm eastern time. There are only a tiny handful of these, at most, each year.

No, the stock market is not open on Saturday or Sunday. Other markets, like the futures market, may be open though.

Is the stock market open on New Years Day?

Generally speaking, no, the stock market is not open on New Years Day.

Whether or not this is directly caused by the holiday depends on if New Years Day is on a weekday or not. If New Years Day is on a Saturday or Sunday, the market will be closed simply because it is the weekend. Otherwise, if New Years Day is on a weekday, it'll be closed on that day.

Is the stock market open on July 4th?

No, the stock market is not open on the 4th of July. Additionally, days surrounding July 4th may also be affected as well.

If July 4th falls between Tuesday and Friday, then July 3rd, the previous day, will be a half day with the market closing at 1:00pm eastern time.

If July 4th is on a Saturday, then the market will be closed on July 3rd, a Friday.

On the other hand, if July 4th occurs on a Sunday, then the market will be closed on July 5th, a Monday.

Is the stock market open on MLK Day?

No, it's not open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Note that MLK day is always on the third Monday of January every year.

Is the stock market open on Labor Day?

No, it's not open on Labor Day. Keep in mind Labor day in the US is always on the first Monday of September every year.

Is the stock market open on Columbus Day?

Strangely enough, the stock market is indeed open on Columbus Day despite it being a federal holiday. Additionally, some locations may call this day Indigenous Peoples' Day. This holiday is always on the second Monday of October.

Is the stock market open on Veterans Day?

Yes, it's open on Veterans Day unless the holiday is on Saturday or Sunday, in which case it'll be closed simply because it is the weekend. Note that Veterans Day is always on November 11th.

Is the stock market open on Black Friday?

Yes, it's open, but only for a half day, ending at 1:00pm eastern time, on Black Friday. Note that Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday and the Friday immediately afterwards is called Black Friday.
